How we calculate these numbers
Why a 1.3–2.0x range?
A return costs more than just the refund. Across TikTok Shop sellers we've observed the true cost typically lands somewhere between 1.3x and 2.0x the order value, once you account for:
- Refund amount (the obvious one)
- TikTok's refund admin fee (20% of referral, capped)
- Return shipping cost
- Lost affiliate commission (if paid out)
- Lost transaction fees on the reversed order
- Labor to inspect + repackage returned items
- Damaged goods that can't be resold
Foregrade calculates this per-return using real TikTok API data, not estimates. Your actual multiplier may be higher or lower depending on product category and return reason mix.
Why different prevention rates per plan?
Each plan catches returns differently. Starter (30%) uses auto-rules that reject buyer-fault returns from known serial returners. Growth (40%) adds deadline alerts (so TikTok doesn't auto-approve while you sleep) and serial returner detection. Scale (45%) adds dispute intelligence and historical pattern matching for the edge cases.
These are observed ranges, not guarantees. A seller with zero return management today and heavy serial abuse could see much higher prevention rates, while a seller already running tight processes will see less lift.
