Serial returner detection

How Foregrade identifies buyers with suspicious return patterns.

Last updated: 2026-04-17

Some buyers abuse return policies — ordering, using, then returning as "defective." Foregrade flags these patterns so you can reject with evidence.

What counts as a serial returner

A buyer gets flagged when they hit any of these thresholds in a 90-day rolling window:

  • 3+ returns across any orders
  • 50%+ return rate on 4+ orders
  • 2+ "defective" claims across different products (suspicious — defects cluster by SKU, not by buyer)

Where you'll see it

  • Buyer profiles page — full list of flagged buyers with return history
  • Return detail view — a warning badge appears on pending returns from flagged buyers
  • Return alerts email — flagged buyers are highlighted in escalation emails (Growth plan)
  • Morning Actions widget — flagged returns rise to the top

Using the flag

The flag is informational, not automatic — Foregrade doesn't auto-reject. The decision is yours. Typical actions:

  1. Ask for evidence — reject with reason "more evidence needed" and include a note
  2. Add buyer to watchlist — future orders from this buyer show a warning at approval
  3. Reject confidently — you now have data to justify rejection to TikTok if disputed

Privacy note

Buyer usernames come from TikTok's Return API. We store them only for return pattern analysis on your behalf. We never share buyer data with other sellers. See our Privacy Policy for the full data handling disclosure.
