Fix a failed payment
What to do when your card is declined and how to avoid service interruption.
Last updated: 2026-04-17
If your payment fails, you'll see a banner on your dashboard and receive an email. Here's how to resolve it.
Why payments fail
Most common reasons:
- Expired card — typical on annual renewals
- Insufficient funds
- Issuer block — bank flagged the charge as unusual
- Incorrect ZIP / CVV if you recently updated the card
How to fix
- Go to Settings → Subscription → Manage in Stripe
- In the Stripe portal, click Add payment method
- Enter your updated card details
- Click Set as default
- Back in Foregrade, click Retry payment
Or simpler: email support@foregrade.io and we'll help.
What happens if I don't fix it
- Day 0 — first payment attempt fails, you get an email + in-app banner
- Day 1, 3, 5, 7 — Stripe automatically retries the charge
- Day 10 — if still failing, your account gets paused
- Day 30 — if still failing, subscription is cancelled and you revert to Free
You have a generous window. But the earlier you fix it, the less disruption to your dashboards and alerts.
Account pause state
While paused:
- Sync stops (no new orders/returns sync)
- Alerts stop firing
- Dashboard still shows historical data (read-only)
- No charge attempts
Pause ends immediately when payment is updated.
