TikTok Shop US — new mandatory attributes for 31 OTC categories

TikTok announced mandatory compliance attributes (Country of Origin, Manufacturer, Age Group, etc.) for 31 over-the-counter medicine categories. Affects all new and existing listings in those categories. Who needs to act, which categories, and what to update.

Last updated: 2026-04-20

This is an editorial mirror of a TikTok Shop Seller Center notice published 2026‑04‑16. The original is on seller.tiktokshop.com; this page is here so sellers using Foregrade can find it in context.

What changed

TikTok Shop US introduced mandatory compliance attributes for 31 over-the-counter (OTC) medicine leaf categories. Listings in these categories now need to include a specific set of attributes (Country of Origin, Manufacturer, Age Group, Applicable Symptoms, Net Content, etc.) before they can be created, edited, or — eventually — kept live.

The enforcement date announced in the notice was 2026‑04‑17, with the full cutoff to be confirmed in a follow-up.

Who is affected

You need to act if your shop has listings in any of these categories:

  • Asthma, Thrush, Dandruff, Jock Itch, Nasal Treatment, OTC Acne Treatment,

Yeast Infection, Rosacea Care, Psoriasis, Eczema, Sinus

  • Pain Relief (Homeopathic, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Joint/Muscle

rubs, Joint/Muscle medications)

  • Cough & Cold, Allergies, Antifungal Remedies, Digestion & Nausea,

Cuts & Wounds

  • Scar / stretch-mark / nail-fungus treatments
  • Baby & Child Cold & Flu, Baby & Child Allergy, Baby & Child Adhesive Bandages
  • Muscle stimulators and accessories

If your shop is not in any of these leaf categories, this notice doesn't affect you.

What you need to add

Per-category specifics are on the Seller Center notice, but the new mandatory attributes generally include:

  • Country of Origin (free-form)
  • Manufacturer (free-form)
  • Age Group (drop-down — infant / child / adult / etc.)
  • Number of Items (free-form)
  • Applicable Symptoms (free-form)
  • Net Content Count / Net Weight (free-form)
  • Product Form (tablet, capsule, liquid, spray, etc.)
  • Contains Liquid Contents / Is the Liquid Product Double Sealed (safety)
  • Is the Item Health Sensitive?
  • Unity Count Type
  • Color / Function (when applicable)

What happens if you don't

Per TikTok's notice: listing errors and potential takedown after the enforcement date. A takedown mid-campaign is an expensive surprise — no orders, no ad spend, and if the product was inventory-heavy, no revenue against holding cost.

What to do this week

  1. Pull your catalog from Seller Center and filter to the affected leaf categories. Export to CSV if you have a lot.
  2. Fill in the mandatory attributes for each affected SKU — do the top-revenue SKUs first, then the long tail.
  3. Use Bulk Edit (Seller Center → Products → Manage Products → Edit in bulk) rather than one-by-one. Bulk edit accepts CSV imports for category-specific attributes.
  4. Re-verify the listings go live cleanly — a listing can pass validation and still be flagged downstream.

Does Foregrade help here?

Not directly — Foregrade doesn't manage product listings. We track orders, returns, fees, and profit. This is a product-compliance task and it needs to happen in Seller Center.

Where Foregrade will notice it: if a listing gets taken down mid-month, you'll see the drop in Revenue and a spike in returns (pending orders get refunded). The Monthly P&L Trend and Return Analytics will show the shape. That's a symptom, not a fix — the fix is to get the attributes in before the takedown.
